Why UW?
UW.CZ - a group of blogs focused on Unix Way of operating systems, including VMware, FreeBSD, and Linux. The idea is simple: to separate different topics into dedicated blogs for better clarity and focus.
I’ve been blogging since 2006. Back then, I chose the Blogger/Blogspot platform — and looking back, it was a great decision. All my articles are still available today, nearly two decades later, with minimal maintenance and cost. It's also quite rewarding to revisit some of those early posts from 2006 — they help me share 20+ years of experience with a new generation of readers. π
It all began as the blog of one IT guy who loved computer programming from the age of 12. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats: Software Developer, Database Administrator, UNIX Administrator, Network Administrator, Software Architect, Technical Pre-Sales Engineer, Consultant, and eventually a Datacenter Infrastructure Architect and Designer. My professional journey is documented at dpasek.uw.cz.
The blog originally lived at DavidPasek.blogspot.com, but after a few years, I noticed that most of my posts revolved around data center technologies, especially those from VMware. At the time, I was working at Dell’s Global Infrastructure Consulting Services (GICS) from 2006 to 2015, so I renamed the blog to blog.iGICS.com. It wasn't the easiest name to pronounce, but since I was mostly writing for myself, despite attracting over 12,000 monthly readers, that didn’t bother me much.
In 2015, I earned the highest-level VMware certification, VCDX, and was honored with the very cool number #200. Naturally, I rebranded the blog again, this time to blog.VCDX200.com.
From 2015 to 2022, I worked directly for VMware. But even before the Broadcom acquisition was announced in 2022, I had already decided to leave the world of large vendors. I returned to a more local role at Cloud4com by ΔRa, a cloud service provider I co-founded in 2010. Today, we’re one of the largest VMware Cloud Service Providers in the region. My current work is more diverse and lets me explore other technologies as well, which has been a refreshing change.
In the end, everything in a modern datacenter is built on Unix-based systems: Linux, BSD, VMware, and others. That’s why I’ve decided to finally put to use the great domain UW.CZ, which I registered back in 2002, and I’m just launching the following specialized blogs:
VCDX200.uw.cz – focused on VMware and data center technologies
FreeBSD.uw.cz – dedicated to my favorite OS, which I’ve used since 1996
Linux.uw.cz – focused on the world’s most widespread operating system
